Laser Hair Removal Care & Preparation Guidelines

Proper preparation and aftercare are essential for safe treatment and optimal results. The guidelines below help reduce sensitivity, support skin comfort, and improve overall outcomes.

Before Your Laser Hair Removal Appointment

Preparing properly before your laser hair removal appointment helps support skin comfort, safety, and treatment effectiveness. The guidelines below outline what to do before your visit.

Hair Removal Methods

Avoid waxing, tweezing, plucking, threading, bleaching, depilatory creams, or coloring in the treatment area for 6 weeks prior to treatment. Shaving is the only permitted method before and between sessions.

Sun Exposure & Tanning

Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning products prior to treatment. No tanning for 6 weeks and no self-tanner for 7 days (remove all residue). Treating tanned skin increases the risk of burns and pigment changes.

Skin Sensitivity & History

Disclose any history of cold sores or related skin sensitivities. Preventative medication may be recommended to reduce the risk of irritation or flare-ups.

Medications & Skincare

Disclose all medications and topical products. Stop topical retinoids, exfoliants, acids, and prescription creams 3–5 daysbefore treatment. Accutane (Isotretinoin) must be discontinued for at least 6 months prior to laser hair removal. Some medications may require postponement.

Skin Preparation

Arrive clean-shaven and free of lotions, creams, makeup, deodorant, oils, or perfumes on the day of treatment. A $30 shaving fee may apply if you arrive unshaven.

Treatment Timing

Laser hair removal sessions are scheduled according to the treatment area and natural hair growth cycles. Your recommended timing will be reviewed during consultation.

After Your Laser Hair Removal Appointment

Mild redness or sensitivity after laser hair removal is normal and typically resolves quickly. The aftercare guidelines below are designed to support healing and reduce irritation.
